Chantal Fraser, Leadership, Integrity, Community Service
I served Canada for 28 years as a Human Resources officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force. I held several leadership positions and provided human resources support to Canadian military personnel and Department of National Defence employees. In 2012, when I retired from the military as a Lieutenant-Colonel, I decided to start a business and to raise my family in Quinte West.
I’ve learned that the best way to solve problems is to bring together diverse groups of people, from different organizations, to find practical and affordable solutions. In my experience, when everyone treats each other with respect, genuinely listens and tries to understand each other’s concerns, and is committed to finding a win-win solution, we can accomplish what most would consider impossible.
My greatest joy is helping people achieve success on their own terms. In August 2012, I founded Empowered Path Inc. where I leverage my leadership and communication skills to empower people so that communities, organizations and businesses thrive. I speak in both English and French on a variety of topics including: Leadership, Mentoring, and Diversity.
I have served in a leadership role with several non-profit organizations: Human Resources Professional Association (HRPA) Quinte and District Chapter (2007 to present); the Trenton Military Family Resource Centre Board (5 years), Kingston Daycare Inc. Board (3 years) and the Girl Guides of Canada (10 years). In July 2014, I was elected as the President for the Trenton & District Business and Professional Women’s (BPW) Club. I am an editor for Aboriginal Veterans Autochthones (AVA). I also belong to the Aboriginal Women’s Business Entrepreneurship Network (AWBEN).
While many of the skills I learned in the military help me as an entrepreneur, I know that I still have a lot to learn. The biggest lesson I’ve learned about growing a business so far, is that it’s all about relationships. The relationships you build with your clients, those who provide the goods and services you need to operate your business and your colleagues in the local business community.
My formal post-secondary education includes a Masters of Business Administration from the Royal Military College of Canada, a Bachelor of Arts in Business Administration and a CEGEP Diploma in Science and Engineering from le Collège Militaire Royale du Canada.
Life is all about choices. My husband Michael Tiffe, CET, LEED AP, QCxP, has owned and operated TAB Mechanical Inc. in the Quinte area since 2007. When I was posted from Trenton to Kingston in 2009, we talked about moving our family and Michael’s business to Kingston. I chose to stay here and to do the daily commute, because we believe that Quinte West is a great place to raise a family. When I retired from the military, I chose to remain in Quinte West to start a business and to be more active in my community.
